The Bay
This series reflects many years of work photographing Fire island's western communities, ferry docks and South Bay.
It began with a desire to photograph views that were identifiable Fire Island, marrying structure with sand and surf. As all visitors arrive by boat - one of the island's most unique features - the docks became a subject of interest that captures the energy of the island.
The simplistic beauty of Fire Island beach living, the surf, serene views and changing light encouraged equally timeless, slow and thoughtful methods: pinhole camera, Polaroid and black + white photography.
