This work began with the start of the pandemic, when the garden became my inspiration and safe haven. As I watched spring unfold, my anxiety lessened and my mood lifted with each emerging bloom. Upon looking more and more closely, I found myself drawn deeper into the fascinating world of botanic shapes and patterns. A world of great beauty and variety revealed itself, and I felt myself opening to it much like the flowers I was studying.
These prints are toned cyanotype photograms, a camera-less process that is exposed in sunlight. Most flowers came from my garden, but as time passed, I began using local growers.
