My work explores the natural world from the garden to the ocean, using alternative and historic photographic processes. I'm currently working with cyanotype because it allows me to directly interact with the sun and water, physically creating within a landscape. My process is camera-less and involves hand-coating watercolor paper with photo sensitive chemistry. By abstracting landscapes and challenging familiar perception of the medium, I aim to leave the viewer questioning whether or not they are looking at a photograph.
For me working in nature is a meditative process. I seek balance between deliberate, spontaneous and intuitive image-making. Whether I’m working with flora or in abstraction, I look for a quiet emotional tone, using negative space to leave breathing room. I create simple compositions emphasizing the subtle beauty and texture of the physical world.
